Guidance for Candidates Impacted by School Closures

With many educator preparation programs (EPPs) and P–12 school districts impacted by COVID-19, the following guidance is provided to programs and teacher candidates in need of options for successfully preparing and submitting an edTPA portfolio.

Pearson will continue to monitor the situation and will provide updates as events warrant.

Candidates Have 18 Months to Submit

Upon edTPA account registration, teacher candidates have 18 months to prepare and submit a finalized portfolio, for both initial submissions and retakes. Programs may encourage candidates to submit their portfolio during a future submission window within the 18 months.

edTPA COVID-19 Update

On behalf of SCALE, Pearson, and AACTE, we would like to assure you that our main priority is the health and well-being of all learners, prospective teachers, faculty, P-12 educators, parents and their communities.  We are carefully monitoring the information about COVID-19 and are aware of the many educator preparation program (EPP) and school closures around the country. We will continue to stay informed of the situation and discuss ways in which we may support states and EPPs as they consider how to meet program and state requirements. We are supporting and partnering with states as they discuss options to best address their policy questions and needs.

2020 National TPA Conference Postponed

Over the past few weeks, SCALE has been closely monitoring the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus), with the health and safety of all conference attendees at the forefront.  Given several new local and state health measures regarding travel and hosting large events, including from Stanford University and other EPP institutions, SCALE has come to the decision to cancel the 2020 National TPA Conference this spring.

While SCALE is greatly disappointed that they will not have the opportunity to convene this March 26-28, they know that this decision is in the best interest of everyone’s well-being and appreciate your understanding.  Further, given your contributions and scholarship regarding the policies and practices associated with implementation of the edTPA, SCALE is pursuing the possible option of rescheduling the event in the fall.

SCALE is aware that this decision will have travel impacts for many attendees. All conference registration fees will be refunded to the method of payment over the course of the next few weeks.  In addition, room reservations made within the hotel block at the Renaissance Austin are fully cancellable up to 72 hours before the planned date of arrival. If you have any questions, feel free to contact stanfordscale@stanford.edu. Thank you for your patience and consideration during this time.
