New Report on First-Year edTPA® Data Shows Growth, Affirms Validity & Reliability
Of the First Nationally Available Licensure Assessment of Teacher Candidates

WASHINGTON – Sept. 30, 2015 – A new public report on the first full year of edTPA implementation provides the most detailed picture to date of edTPA’s expansion as the first nationally available performance-based assessment and support system for teacher licensure. More than 18,000 candidate portfolios are included in the findings, and analyses are presented in the report to affirm reliability and consistency of scoring, examine evidence of validity, and document trends in candidate performance.

edTPA Review of Research on Teacher Education Now Available

SCALE is excited to make available an update to the edTPA Review of Research. This Review of Research on Teacher Education: edTPA Task Dimensions and Rubric Constructs was developed by SCALE, with input from educators and researchers, to identify foundational research literature that informs the development of edTPA. The literature cited provides a research foundation for the role of assessment in teacher education, for the common edTPA architecture, and for each of the 15 shared rubric constructs. We encourage educators, policy makers, programs, and teacher candidates to use the review to examine the underlying constructs of edTPA as a measure of effective teaching.

2015-16 Handbook Change List

The annual “Table of Changes” for edTPA handbooks is now available in the Resource Library, documenting handbook changes for 2015-16. Click here to access the list.

The first group of revised handbooks was released a few weeks ago, and remaining handbooks will be available mid-June and mid-July. The document linked above provides explanation for generic and subject-specific changes in all handbooks except Special Education. We are continuing to work with the field to vet prospective changes to Special Education and will provide an individual changes document in a few weeks, prior to that handbook release in mid-July.
